A series of architect directed projects produced in
collaboration with artist, Marc Springhetti and historian, Dr Clare Davidson.
Each were to be a micro insertion or disturbance to the fabric of city. These
works played with how novelty adds to our affection and acceptance of a project
or experience and explored notions of terrain vague and curiosity within an
urban environment. The idea centred on engaging in large scale analysis of the
city to make small interventions to shift the attentional frameworks of a
place.
Keanu breeze is a prototype for a concept space . Originally a 24 sqm storage room in the west end of Fremantle it is now an artist residency, art collection generator and a live in gallery hotel. Each of its functions supports the others and the space operates autonomously while growing an art collection for the client and exposing international guests to local and interstate artwork.
Sometimes gallery is a creative hub in South Fremantle done with Whispering Smith. It offers studio space to a great collection of creatives and for some years hosted quarterly exhibitions. The project involved the renovation and division of an old warehouse into studios and gallery.
Debbie was the first of these insertions. She was to be an independent art gallery that would host new openings twice a week and would operate within a loophole in the liquor licensing act. As a project in herself she was a protest against the absurdly restrictive liquor licensing of Western Australia but also came to host many emerging local and interstate artists and we ourselves produced numerous works to be exhibited.
